A collage is a visual representation of ideas, emotions, and understanding in response to a specific topic, concept, situation, or issue. Although a collage may include some words, it is usually composed of a variety of visual materials such as photographs, magazine pictures, digital images, scraps of cloth, and paper. For the one you create it will be all digital images. Your collage must be creative, thorough, and an accurate representation of the era you choose.

Refer to the notes that you took when you were going through the Media Arts Timeline activity in the content section. Remember that the timeline is set up as a departure point for each era in relation to the media arts.
Choose one era presented in this activity and research it in depth. Look at images, study art movements, and read biographies on the artists. When you have done this, create a collage that insightfully presents the era using the given requirements. It is important to keep the names of people who invented the technology, the art creations, or names or locations of events that are important during that era. You can put your notes below your finaly collage you create as a component of your Communications mark. Point form is acceptable for this.

When you are finished:

Collage requirements:
- Use one era presented as a departure point; you must research the era in depth.
- Title of era.
- Your name on bottom right.
- Collage must present new technologies, world events, the art world, and Canadian events relevant to the era chosen.
- Collage must incorporate at least 8 images of major art pieces.
Things to consider when designing a collage:
- What is my main topic or theme? What idea(s) am I trying to convey?
- Have I chosen enough images and materials that communicate my topic, theme, or message clearly and effectively?
- Have I thought about how I want to direct the viewer's eye (e.g., to one main image; from left to right; to move from one image to another in no particular order)?
- Have I arranged the visuals in a style that suits the idea I am trying to get across (e.g., abstract, emotional, realistic)?
- Do my images reflect adequate detail about my topic, theme, or message?
- Is it clear that I have organized and planned my collage?
- Have I combined the images with care?
When you are finished:
- Digitize and submit your collage to your teacher and place a copy on your website under the PORTFOLIO > Photography tab.
- You will need to submit your Photoshop collage.1.3.1.lastname.firstname.psd file
- To save a .jpeg version for your e-Portolio website go File > Save As > and change the drop down menu from Photoshop to JPEG.
- Below your collage image on your website you should post your notes from your research of your era.
