Assignment 2.3.1
Now that you have looked at various ways in which light can be used in a photograph, it is time for you to practice what you have learned.
You will be trying as many of the different types of lighting as you can reproduce, given what resources you have available to you. All 10 photos must be different and in different locations – you cannot hand in three examples of sidelighting for example. Also, your partner cannot have similar pictures as you; meaning you cannot trade spot to take the same shot. This is the same as submitting the same photograph. You must attend to create your own new version of the shot in a new location.
The subject matter will be determined by you, although portraits are recommended, since you can easily position your model for illumination. Look for ways in which you can manipulate the lighting situation. While photographic studio lights are always the best possible source of artificial illumination, other sources, such as lamps, candles, fireplaces and flashlights, can be modified to suit your needs.
You should attempt to make sure every photograph is sharp and in focus. Images that are not sharp and in focus will not be marked.
You must not crop your photos except through the camera lens. You are also not allowed to use any photo manipulation or editing software for this assignment. So just send your raw images.
All photographic work must be original and created by you.
Here is a list of the shots required:
You must indicate which type of lighting was reproduced in the particular photo as the file name that you will hand into me. And add the a caption on your website when you post there. Please ensure that you also include your name on a folder named: lighting.yourlastname.yourfirstname and submit all images to me on the shared Dropbox on the server.
You should post all images to your website under your Photography. Also, pick your best photo that shows Using Light Effectively; as described in The Role of Light Activity. Write a brief statement to describe why you think the image you choose is showing how light is being used effectively.
